Every project begins with the site: its relief, its climate, its views, its vegetation, its neighbours and the traces of what came before. The building is not placed on the site — it grows out of it.

The path of the sun, the changing light through the day, the seasons and the ageing of materials belong to the project as much as the walls that carry it.

A brief is not a list of rooms, nor a folder of images. The work is to draw out needs that are sometimes hard to put into words, and translate them into space.
